Therapists In Denver And Nearby Specializing In ADD/ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorder characterized by significant issues with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsive behavior that are not appropriate for a person’s age. To be diagnosed, symptoms must appear between the ages of six and twelve and persist for more than six months. In school-aged children, ADHD often leads to challenges with focus, resulting in poor academic performance.

Although ADHD is one of the most commonly studied and diagnosed psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents, the exact cause in most cases remains unknown. The rates of ADHD diagnosis are similar across countries and largely depend on diagnostic criteria. It is diagnosed approximately three times more often in boys than girls. About 30% to 50% of individuals diagnosed in childhood continue to experience symptoms into adulthood, with 2% to 5% of adults having the condition. Diagnosing ADHD can be challenging, as it may overlap with other conditions or be mistaken for high levels of normal activity.
